Start with one question: what happens in your worst ten minutes?
If you had to evacuate right now, what would you grab? If the answer is "I'd have to run around the house searching," you need organization AND protection. If your documents are already organized but sitting in a cardboard box, you need protection. If they are scattered across drawers and email attachments, start with organization.

A note on the words we use, and the numbers we do not
You will see other sellers say fireproof and waterproof. We say fire-resistant and water-resistant, because those are the accurate words and the other two are not true of any document bag, including ours.
You will also see big temperature numbers across this category, often 1,200 or 2,000 degrees and occasionally something wilder. Those describe what the outer fabric can take. They do not tell you how hot it got inside the bag, which is the only number that decides whether your paperwork survives. The recognized standard that does measure that, UL 72, was written for insulated safes and file cabinets, and no fabric document bag we know of carries it. So we do not quote you a temperature at all.
What we will tell you is this: getting everything into one findable, carryable, protected place is most of the value, and almost nobody has done it. For the few originals you truly cannot replace, add a safe deposit box or a UL-rated safe. We recommend that even though we sell neither.
